Latest plans for Nunawading Station revealed

There will be a single, continuous (island) platform with the inbound train track on one side and outbound on the other. Space will be provided for any future third track to be added.

The platform will link to stairs and lifts on either side of Springvale Rd, at the site of the current level crossing, so pedestrians can safely reach either the west or east side of the road.

The new Nunawading Station roof, styled as a bubble canopy, connects both west and east station entrances with a similar look and feel.

The new station entry and ticket sales will be at street level on the city side of Springvale Rd. Stairs and a lift will take customers down to the platform that stretches west behind the community centre.

The station will be staffed from first to last train. It will use natural light to enhance comfort and visibility. Upgraded customer facilities will include bicycle storage, a taxi rank and a new drop-off and parking area at street level. It will feature bluestone pavers at the concourse level and stainless steel and graffiti proof finishes.

Long-stay customer parking will be available in 2010 along Walkers Rd and Station St, while community parking in Silver Grove and access into Oval Way will be reinstated.

Pedestrian underpassAn open-design concept is planned for the pedestrian underpass linking the train station entrances on the east and west side. This will provide a higher level of security and amenity for pedestrians. The train station exit on the eastern side of Springvale Road will bring customers and patrons directly to the road level and retail area of Station Street.
