Information Update: March 2010
With major construction works to remove the level crossing in Nunawading and re-open the Nunawading Train Station and Belgrave/Lilydale train lines completed in early January, the project team is now busy with final works including minor road and footpath works, car park construction and landscaping. The $140 million Springvale Road Rail Separation project is jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments.
Station Street
Works are continuing to complete footpaths on Station Street and tidy up the existing rail commuter parking facilities. There are ongoing works for utilities services. The existing SmartBus facilities on Station Street are scheduled to be integrated with the Nunawading Train Station in April.
Laughlin Avenue
The removal of the right-turns in and out of Laughlin Avenue will be finalised in the coming weeks. Pedestrian signals near Laughlin Avenue are being relocated towards Candlebark Lane/Market Street. This will make it easier for drivers to turn out of Laughlin Avenue and to safely complete U-turns, if heading southbound at the intersections of Station Street, Walkers Road or at Springvale Road/Whitehorse Road.
Springvale Road/Walkers Road works
Minor road works are being finalised in Walkers Road and parts of Springvale Road, Nunawading. While traffic management will be in place for the safety of road users and project workers, they will take place generally outside of peak times.
Oval Way/Silver Grove
Community car parking facilities will be finalised in March, with Oval Way re-opening to traffic in April. Drivers should watch out for changed traffic conditions.
Landscaping in the project area
During the cooler autumn months, landscaping works will commence in conjunction with the Whitehorse Council.
Nunawading Train Station
Two lifts now operate at the new Nunawading Train Station to assist commuters with specific needs to access the pedestrian underpass and safely cross Springvale Road. There is a new bus and train customer waiting area including toilet facilities. Works will continue in the coming weeks to finalise the train station fit out.
