Installing the western canopy (27 photos)

The western canopy will form the roof of the new Nunawading station. It will cover the station buildings including the ticket office, the waiting area for bus and train travellers and the retail space. Stairs and a lift will carry people to the station platform and pedestrian underpass.

The western canopy was constructed in four separate sections. Each section assembled on site and then lifted into place and fitted together to form one large roof canopy.

Plans and designs (10 photos)

Latest plans for Nunawading Station revealed - there will be a single, continuous (island) platform with the inbound train track on one side and outbound on the other.

It will include improved safety access and services.

The new Nunawading Station roof styled as a bubble canopy connects both west and east station entrances with a similar look and feel.

The bubbles constructed with similar composite materials used for the Beijing Olympics’ National Aquatic Centre will allow light to flow through the concourse level and onto the platform.

The upgraded Nunawading Station will include improved safety access and services. It will be staffed from first train to last and will include bicycle storage a taxi rank a new drop-off and parking area and toilets.

Premium finishes and materials will refresh the entire station precinct and civic district. There will be better integration with other public transport facilities and modern landscaping.

Project announcement (12 photos)

The Springvale Road level crossing is one of the busiest in Melbourne. More than 50,000 vehicles, 218 trains and around 5,000 pedestrians share the same road space every day at this location.

Removing the level crossing will create safer and more reliable travel for train passengers, drivers and pedestrians.
